La Gioia
The town’s first mural: a self-portrait of Riparbella painted by Vincenzo Marano Esposito, known as Vinci. This is where the route began that gave rise to La Collina delle Fiabe.
The theme of the work
A painted portrait of the soul of Riparbella — its landscapes, its vineyards and olive groves — and of the joy of living in a town that stretches along the ridge instead of drawing itself into a circle.
The mural tells the story of what makes Riparbella unique: not a circular town like the medieval towns nearby, but a settlement that grows lengthwise, following the provincial road that runs along the ridge of the hill.
Riparbella has not kept its old medieval structure, but it has preserved intact a genuine landscape of hills, vineyards and lush woodland, with wide panoramic views towards the sea and the coast close by.
Vinci painted all of this in a poetic, figurative key, capturing too the joy of living surrounded by generous nature — and the warm welcome he received from local people during his residency in the town.
The first painted wall in the town, before there was even a festival to tell its story.
