I Tre Lari
Gio Pistone paints three protectors of the home to bring light back to the old courthouse, with the town’s prison cells attached.
The theme of the work
Three Etruscan and Roman lares familiares — ancient protectors of house and family — painted as banners, in colours that evoke joy and freedom, on a building that housed the town’s courthouse and prison cells.
The aim of the work is to highlight the authentic architecture of the historic building: strong, clear colours that give new life to the old courthouse, which had the town’s prison cells attached.
The mural grew out of a series of individual meetings between the artist, the residents and the owners. It was the owners who asked for a painting that could dispel the building’s historical negativity, tied to the presence of the prison cells.
Gio Pistone’s answer is three Etruscan and Roman lares familiares, ancient protectors of house and family, portrayed in the form of three banners — or three statuettes — in strong colours that evoke joy and freedom.
On the opposite side of the square, the green and grey map of “Memoria e desiderio” by Daniel Muñoz answers these colours: the two façades look at each other and make Piazza Matteotti a gallery with two canvases. The painted wall stands opposite the bar “I Lari”.
Three protectors of the home in place of the negativity of a courthouse, in colours that evoke joy and freedom.
