Ex Nihilo Nihil Fit

“Nothing comes from nothing”: on the two walls of the building that was once home to a blacksmith and now to the town’s bakery, Basik tells the story of crafts handing on to one another.

The theme of the work

The hard work of the crafts that have followed one another in the same building: yesterday the blacksmith, today the baker.

The mural spreads across two walls of the same building, which carries a long history of craftsmen: once a blacksmith, today a baker. The common thread is the industry of the trades that have succeeded one another there.

On both walls the focus is on the hand, in a kind of dance with the tools that mark the two trades: tongs, a horseshoe, ears of wheat.

The colours recall the earth, bread and work in the fields, and the main façade, divided into several panels, deliberately speaks to the other works in the square.

Nothing comes from nothing: every trade inherits something from the one that came before.

— The title of the work, from the Latin
